Caption: Library, Mt. Vernon Mansion
The library with the banquet hall were both added by Washington and transformed the simple villa into the stately Mansion House. It was designed as a study with capacious and numerous closets for maps, books etc. Nearly nine hundred volumes comprising the library collection at Washington's death. The desk, chair, mahogany book case, globe and surveyor's tripod, two maps, prayer book and bible are all original possessions now in place.
