Auburn, NY, Auburn Prison, Front View

Auburn Prison The massive State prison at Auburn covers an area of about 18 acres, on the north branch of the Owasco Outlet. It was founded in 1816, the main building and wing being finished in 1818. The grounds, which are beautifuly kept are surrounded by a wall about 30 feet high. The prisoners sent here are put at hard labor.
