Henry A. Ward with Buffalo Bill
1834-1906
Mr. Ward was a collector his entire life. He collected while in
the company of many explorers and famous personalities. He developed a
unique presentation for museums of Teaching Cabinets showing the stages
of life from protozoa to man. He became a Professor at the University of
Rochester, and they built two laboratories to house his extensive collection,
which they had just purchased. A fire in 1869 destroyed Cosmos Hall, Chronos
Hall and the collection. Mr. Ward then opened Ward's Natural Science Establishment,
which prepared Teaching Cabinets for Universities, and provided science
specimens for smaller schools.
Mr. Ward was killed in a traffic accident, the first automobile
related fatality in the city of Buffalo, NY.
