Rochester Winter of 1838
The canal is now Broad Street. The Erie Canal or Clinton's Ditch
connected the Hudson River at Albany and Troy with Lake Erie at Buffalo.
It carried flour from the mills of Rochester to the Great Lakes trading
posts.
